Advisory Digest 02 : 2025

We are living through troubling times. Perhaps you too have switched off those non-stop digital news alerts, to stay focused on the job in hand. In that spirit we bring you our second new-look Quarterly Digest, taking a reflective step back to offer our insights and advice on the challenging world of sustainable business.

We lead off with the surprising outcome of a recent public debate, provocatively titled ‘Greed is Good’. That invoked the spirit of Adam Smith, Scottish economist and philosopher, born a mere 300 years ago, to reaffirm the true purpose of business….

My colleagues then tackle a broad range of issues – among them tricky topics like offsetting and target fixing; how to find social impact in unlikely places; the remarkable power of solar; a primer on climate finance; and, my favourite this time, seven companies problem-solving through an industry alliance. That’s all in pursuit of our goal here – practical solutions that create commercial success.

If this inspires you to take action, simply reach out to any of the contributors or talk with your regular SLR contact.

And then consider joining us this September at Climate Week in New York. A team led by our CEO, Bradley Andrews, will be in town, along with hundreds of others from business, governments and civil society in a busy programme – all the better to make real progress towards a sustainable future. We’ll see you there.
